KARITALAI

       VISHNU VARAH TEMPLE IN KARITALAI

Travel Date - 12 July 2021

In Satyuga, when a demon named Hiranyaksha took the earth to the abyss of Hades, Lord Vishnu had to take the form of Varaha and after killing Hiranyaksha brought the earth out of the abyss. This incarnation of him started being worshiped on earth in the form of Lord Varaha, who is also worshiped in time. But from the fifth to the twelfth century, this incarnation of Lord Vishnu remained the most prominent and most revered in India.

Many Hindu rulers chose Lord Varaha as their presiding deity and the idol of Varaha as their emblem. At the same time, many statues and temples of Lord Varaha were also built in central India. One of these temples was also located in Karitalai, a small village in the Baghelkhand province of Madhya Pradesh, whose remains are still visible here.

Karitalai is located a few miles away from Vijayraghavgarh in Katni district. A little further from the village called Karitalai, the statue of Varaha Vishnu is still seen in its good condition on the ruins of the ruined temple. It is protected by the Archaeological Department of India. Looking at the ruined remains here, it can be estimated that how grand this temple must have been in ancient times.

A folk legend is prevalent about this statue of Lord Varaha that when the king of this place established the idol of this Varaha God here, the size of this statue started increasing with time. When the king found out the reason for this mystery, the idol revealed its intention to the king and said that the size of this statue of mine would keep increasing till I had the vision of Sharda of Maihar. To prevent the huge size of the statue from growing, the king inserted a gold nail in its stomach, due to which the size of the statue stopped increasing.

The truth of this legend is also known by the mark of this nail in this statue and apart from this, in the direction in which the face of this statue is, there is also a temple of Goddess Maihar, which is not visible from here, but With a great height, the mountain of Maihar on which the grand temple of the mother is built, will definitely be visible. Apart from this, the remains of the grand temple built at the place where this statue is installed are still scattered around this statue, while this statue of Lord Varaha is still standing systematically in its original form.

This village named Karitalai is a historical village, apart from the Vishnu Varaha temple, there are other ancient heritage sites, in which the main attraction is the idols of Kutch and Mach located here, which were once established near the palace of the king. Today these ancient rare sculptures are sitting outside the government school of this village. These idols of Kachchha and Machha are the symbol of Kachhapa and Matsya avatar of Lord Vishnu but how they are located in this village so far from Vishnu Varaha temple is an unknown mystery.

When the people of Karitalai village saw me roaming in their village, they asked me to know the reason for coming here. I told him that this village of his is an important historical village about which people not only of India but all over the world should know. I am very much interested to visit historical places and know about our ancient culture, that is why I have come to your village. He was very happy to hear this from me and he respected me very much. It was in this village that I met Manoj Dixit ji, a resident of this village, who told me a lot about the history of this village.

Bus service is available from Katni bus stand to Karitalai. After every one hour from Katni, direct bus is available for Karitalai via Vijayraghavgarh and for return also bus is available from Karitalai every hour. Overall, Karitalai is a historical village as well as an important tourist destination of Madhya Pradesh, it must be visited at least once so that the existence of our ancestor Hindu kings can be exposed.

After seeing Karitalai, I reached Katni by 4 o'clock in the evening and left for the station on foot from the bus stand. After crossing the Katni river, he entered the city of Katni and was proceeding towards the station while admiring the city. This was my second visit to Katni city, last time when I came here I visited the grand temple of Maa Jalpa Devi and got the privilege of having a grand darshan of Lord Jagannath's temple and chariot today.

Katni is the main junction point of the Indian Railways, from here different trains are available to go in four directions and there are separate railway stations to sit in these trains. At present I am going towards Katni Murwada station from where I will get train for my city Mathura at 5 pm in which I had made my reservation in the morning which is not confirmed yet. Now I will meet you soon in the next journey till then Jai Jai Shri Radhe to all of you.
